Samoan lawyer heads for England

APIA (Samoa Observer/PINA) — The leader of Samoa’s United Independent Party, Asiata Dr. Saleimoa Vaai, has gone to London to be part of a Commonwealth Secretariat “Expert Group.”

Asiata was invited to be a member of the Expert Group Meeting on the Development of Guidelines to Promote Freedom of Expression, Assembly and Association.

Asiata has a doctorate from the Australian National University and is one of five lawyers chosen from around the Commonwealth to be part of this.

The others are:

• Dr. Deepika Udagama, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo;

• B. St. Michael Hylton QC, solicitor-general, Jamaica;

• Andrew Puddephatt, Article 19, London;

• Peter Brannen, ILO, London.

To be held at Marlborough House, London, this Monday to Thursday, the Expert Group meeting is organized by the Human Rights Unit of the Commonwealth Secretariat.
