Samoan officer involved in fatal accident agrees to be questioned

He and a colleague, off-duty and intoxicated, drove a Regional Assistance Mission vehicle into a local nurse from Honiara.

One of the men, in hospital in Brisbane, refused to cooperate with the Solomon Islands police investigation into the accident.

Radio New Zealand International reports the officer is now prepared to cooperate with police and a police investigator flew to Brisbane to question him.

Solomon Islands’ acting police commissioner, Peter Marshall, said he was pleased with the development and expected the investigation to be finalized by the end of the week.
