This is to “promote a healthy and beautiful environment on our island,” said Rita Carreon, one of the school’s event coordinators.
The San Antonio students and teachers cleaned the beach area behind their school, she said.
Beautify CNMI provided bags and gloves to the participants.
“We had all the students from grades 2nd to 6th out in the beach area picking up all kinds of trash from assorted paper, metal glass, and plastic materials,” Carreon said.
The kindergarten and first grade students were assigned to pick up trash on campus only, she added.
About 320 students, including teachers and school staff members, joined the cleanup drive which started at 8:30 a.m. and ended at 9:45 a.m.
They collected 15 bags of trash, which personnel of the Division of Environmental Quality later picked up for proper disposal.
