San Vicente school to hold fundraiser for new playground equipment

The fourth Canary Walk-A-Thon is one of the school’s major fundraiser activities for the year.

The school is trying to raise money to improve its playground equipment while providing families with fun activities.

The students gather pledges and there are prizes for the most laps walked as well as for the most pledges gathered.

The class that collects the highest amount of donation gets a trip to the Pacific Islands Club.

Each grade level or student organization can  host a booth.

“We do it every year. We have booths and activities set up from members of the community like NMC-CREES, the Diabetes Coalition, lots of different entities,” said Betty Miller, the school vice principal.

The Department of Public Health will join the event and young farmers will participate and sell plants.

An exhibit at the library featuring the Science Fair’s top winners will be held simultaneously.

A free t-shirt will be given for every $15 pledge.

San Vicente’s playground equipment is now over 10 years old, and the school is hoping to raise at least $10,000 to buy new equipment.
