School offers free lessons on Korean language

The course will cover beginners Korean language from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and basic Korean conversation from 5 to 6 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

There will be 15 to 17 students per class session.

The class instructor will be Christine Hyun J. Kim, Korean Community School’s second grade teacher.

“Anybody interested in learning the language, we are happy to meet them. We are also expecting workers to join the classes because if they learn the language they will have a better opportunity to work with the Korean community,” she said.

The class will also discuss  Korean food and culture, language basics such as   the Korean alphabet, numbers, how to say time, usage of greeting to elders and use of greetings in different situations.

“We are also expecting a demand for intermediate and advance Korean language in the future,” said Kim.

The Korean Community School was established in 1986 and the decision to provide free language classes to the community was made by the school board.

“Our school accepts educational tax credit donations that’s why the school board decided to provide this type of service for the community,” said KCS principal Wok Suk Bang.

The school is also planning to offer computer lessons in the future.
