School vaccination program to start in 2 weeks

Program analyst Roxanne Diaz said  the vaccination for high school students will be in about two weeks’ time, or by the end of November.

“We are in the process of making arrangements with the Public School System and the different schools to set up schedules on when we can administer the vaccinations,” she said.

Public Health epidemiologist Edward P. Diaz said  everybody is considered a priority in the 2009 H1N1 virus vaccination, but they have to give priority to those groups who are most susceptible to the virus like pregnant women, health care and emergency care workers and infants because of the limited number of shots and vaccine sprays that arrived.

He said they will conduct the vaccination program among the high schools first because it will be done “much faster” compared to the elementary students.

The department hopes to receive the full shipment of 56,000 total doses of the 2009 H1N1 virus vaccines by mid-December.
