It will be her third four-year term.
Sen. Frank Q. Cruz, R-Tinian and chairman of the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation, said based on the testimonies of those who attended the public hearing, “she has a good chance of getting the confirmation.”
CDA Executive Director Manuel A. Sablan said he and the other officials of the agency attended the hearing to show support for Tomokane.
He said Tomokane has a “very illustrious” career as a Bank of Guam executive.
Northern Marianas Housing Corp. Director Joshua Sasamoto said he wholeheartedly supports Tomokane’s re-appointment.
House Minority Floor Leader Diego T. Benavente, R-Saipan, also testified to express his support for Tomokane who was appointed to the CDA board in 2003, during the Babauta administration when he was the lt. governor.
Benevente said Tomokane is one of the most well-known members of the community because of her achievements.
Everyone knows and respects her, he added.
She remains “a major contributor in leading CDA,” he said.
Tomokane said she was overwhelmed by and grateful for the support she received.
The CDA board, she said, now focuses on its loan program so it can help the CNMI economy.
CDA is also trying to collect from its delinquent borrowers, she added.
As for the nonperforming loans, she said they call their clients to ask them what CDA can do to get them back on track.
She said CDA also has a debt relief program.
