The bill was introduced by Senate Vice President Jude U. Hofschneider and is supported by the Public School System.
In an interview on Wednesday, the education committee chairman, Senate Floor Leader Justo S. Quitugua, said PSS students are not able to complete the 180-day instructional requirement in the past and current school years due to Super Typhoon Yutu and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
In its report, the committee said “in light of the ongoing recovery efforts from recent natural disasters that have heavily devastated educational facilities and hampered instructional time for PSS, it is evident that 3CMC Section 1132 must be amended to provide flexibility in determining a sufficient time frame for instructional purposes.”
Quitugua expects the Senate to act on the measure in its next session.
