Reyes, R-Saipan, said Obama’s cancelled trip to Guam was unfortunate, but “it would give them time to reconsider, and hopefully, include the CNMI in the president’s trip.”
He said the people of the Northern Marianas can relate to Obama because he grew up in Hawaii which is also an island community.
The president’s scheduled visit to Guam was postponed thrice.
He was supposed to arrive on Guam before proceeding to Indonesia.
His trip to Guam, according to the White House, will demonstrate his commitment to underscore its role in keeping security in the Asia-Pacific Region.
The CNMI House of Representatives and the Senate separately adopted resolutions urging Obama to visit the commonwealth.
