Senator vows support for Fitial’s nominees

In an interview Cruz, R-Tinian, said his committee will endorse the confirmation of the governor’s nominees for the commonwealth boards and commissions if the mayors fail to submit their own list of nominees for their respective islands.

Cruz said an appointment or reappointment to boards and commission  expires in 90 days if his committee fails to act on it, and this also prevents the governor to appoint the same nominee.

But there are also instances when mayors take too long to submit their appointees.

“I will respect the governor’s nominations or appointment if the Tinian and Rota mayors fail to name their nominees,” Cruz said.

On Thursday next week, the Senate panel is expected to confirm the governor’s nominee, former Sen. Manuel P. Villagomez, to represent Tinian to the Commonwealth Ports Authority board for another four- year term.

CPA Executive Director Edward Deleon Guerrero, Tinian CPA resident director Joseph M. Mendiola,  Municipal Council Chairman Patrick A. Manglona and resident Gregorio Q. Castro expressed their support for the former senator.

Fitial said he and Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos are confident that Villagomez is qualified and will be an asset to the board.
