U.S. District Court Chief Judge for the NMI Alex R. Munson said a presentence investigation report for Joseph R. Guzman must be submitted to the court by Oct. 6, 2009.
Guzman appeared for a plea hearing yesterday represented by attorney Anthony Long. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric S. O’Malley appeared on behalf of the federal government.
Guzman waived reading of the information and entered a guilty plea to one count of misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
The court accepted Guzman’s voluntary plea and granted the defense’s motion to release him subject to several conditions.
The defendant was ordered to post an unsecured bond of $5,000.
Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Benedetto said Guzman intentionally possessed marijuana plants on July 22, 2008.
Misdemeanor possession of marijuana is an offense which caries a maximum statutory sentence of one year imprisonment, a maximum fine of $5,000 and a special assessment fee of $100.
