Ketungu Chamorro ‘Let’s Learn Chamorro’ Series 2 will be premiering tomorrow, Tuesday, at 7:30 pm.
The web project was designed to further the understanding of the Chamorro language and cultural history in the Marianas.
Anyone interested in learning the Chamorro language, history, and culture are encouraged to tune in.
The first episode of this second series will focus on a Chamorro poem that will be interpreted into English.
Claire Cabrera — a former Language Immersion Program instructor at Kagman Elementary School and current instructor at Mount Carmel School — will be the instructor of this series, showcasing the main vocabulary and sentences used in everyday situations.
Series 2 will heavily focus on conversational Chamorro, and will also feature a special presentation on cooking Chamorro dishes in which Cabrera, along with Norbert Cabrera, will teach students how to make shrimp tempura, a common local dish.
Roman Tudela of the Indigenous Affairs Office, for his part, said that IAO became involved in this project to ensure the 4 P’s: preservation, protection, promotion, and perpetuation of the Chamorro language.
He said that online education, such as this series, is important for its ability to reach individuals throughout the world.
Moreover, he strongly suggests that agencies and businesses support the 4 P’s to ensure that the Chamorro language and culture is practiced.
“Any program that is available for online usage is extremely useful and important. It is the new norm especially during a pandemic,” he noted.
The episodes are available in mycnmi.com/education and are accessible and available for everyone to learn the Chamorro language and culture.
All users are asked to give feedback on episodes.
If any company or agency would like to sponsor Ketungu Chamorro, they are encouraged to email riverspictures07@gmail.com.
