SHEFA receives 1,344 applications for spring semester

Of this number, 754 had been approved and 590 applications were denied as of May 7.

Merissa Rasa Usually, an application is denied when a student submits an incomplete application package; did not meet the maximum award duration; or did not maintain the 2.5 cumulative grade point average.

SHEFA also received 93 applications from students who want to study at the Northern Marianas Trades Institute.

All these applications are still pending.

Of the 93 applicants, 82 are new, five are ongoing, and six are returning students.

Rasa said SHEFA’S total available funding for scholarship awards is $1.38 million.

As of May 7, SHEFA had disbursed $1,497,700 to the scholarship recipients.

As of Feb. 27, 2020, SHEFA had collected $336,978.53 in scholarship loan payments, Rasa said.

The primary source of funding for SHEFA are the annual poker license fee collections on Saipan.
