“It’s good that we keep the money here but we have to look into the wishes of the students,” he added.
He said some students may want to study abroad to obtain better education.
Current SHEFA regulations cannot compel recipients to study in the CNMI for their first year in college, he added.
In a recent SHEFA meeting which she attended, Hart encouraged its board to help “maximize the utilization” of local scholarship funds.
Hofschneider said the board should look into the “details” of this proposal so it will not compromise the aspiration of students.
