Event organizer Sharmaine Casquero said they were able to sell tickets amounting to $940.
She said they paid $80 for the sound system and donated the rest of the proceeds, or $860, to support the seven individuals who have filed a lawsuit in federal court that seeks to suspend the implementation of the CNMI-only Transitional Worker final rule.
Casquero said despite the controversies and issues involving the fundraising event, they were not discouraged.
“We only had about a week to prepare but we are happy we pushed through,” she said.
The “Saipan Divas” and representatives from different cultural groups performed hip-hop songs and cultural dances.
There were impersonations of Beyonce, Madonna and Lady Gaga. Also performing were dancers from the Bangladesh Association, Thai and Chinese groups as well as the SDC Dancers and the Rock-a-bit Dancers.
Tickets for the show were $5 each.
“The show was great, and we would like to thank everyone who came and enjoyed it with us,” Casquero said.
The event also aimed to express the unity of the foreign workers in the CNMI.
Saipan tattoo artist Edward “Dragon Edong” Elenzano was the master of ceremonies.
