(Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.) — From June 2 to 4, CHCC Public Health Services in partnership with Shriners Hospitals for Children Hawaii delivered vital orthopedic services to 84 children and adolescents from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota — including children with special healthcare needs. For over 20 years and counting, CHCC Public Health Services and Shriners Hospital Hawaii have collaborated to bring these specialty pediatric services to CNMI’s children, regardless of ability to pay.
One parent stated, “My daughter has been following up with Shriners for her scoliosis here on Saipan. But last year her back got more worse, so we were referred to Shriners Hospital in Honolulu. The surgery they did helped my daughter a lot. Now, she has no pain on her lower back and can play some sports.” Another parent mentioned that, “It’s nice that Shriners come out here so families can avail themselves of the services.
Shriners Hospital Hawaii and CHCC Public Health Services collaborate twice a year to bring the following pediatric services to the CNMI: orthopedic evaluations and treatment, pediatric orthotics and prosthetic services, and referral to other pediatric services such as neurology and genetics. Shriners Hospital continues to provide telehealth services for families who had surgery in Hawaii. This telehealth service is essential in that it ensures a child’s recovery stays on track, helps prevent complications after surgery and supports their overall well-being.
“CHCC Children’s Clinic and Public Health Services want to give big thanks to Shriners Hospitals Hawaii and our community for making this outreach possible as well as another successful visit!”
