IN recognition of her dedication to creating effective and meaningful student learning experiences, April Liske-Clark of Saipan International School has been named the 2025 State Finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching or PAEMST.
The PAEMST program honors exceptional teachers nationwide for their passion and commitment to enriching students’ STEM learning both inside and outside the classroom.
April has been a secondary science teacher at Saipan International School for the past six years, offering courses such as middle school integrated science, biology, chemistry, AP/Honors Biology, and an Environmental Sustainability course for both middle and high school students. She designs place-based, relevant learning experiences through community partnerships, including with the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance. One such project involved students recycling plastic into useful products and piloting a CNMI marine debris curriculum.
In addition to her work with community partnerships, April also advises after-school enrichment clubs to support students interested in science and research. Under her guidance, students have the opportunity to participate in school-level STEM fairs and advance to both state and national science competitions.
In a letter to April, Asapmar Ogumoro, PAEMST state coordinator, said the PAEMST recognition “is a testament to your contributions and commitment to excellence in science education, your innovative approaches in the classroom, and your passion for inspiring young minds. Your dedication has not only impacted your students’ academic success but has also elevated the standard of science teaching in the CNMI.”
April was presented with a PAEMST State Finalist plaque and certificate in a ceremony attended by supportive Saipan International School students and faculty, along with SIS Headmaster Dr. Ron Snyder, PSS-CTE Director Dr. Jessica Taylor, Federal Programs Officer Melisha San Nicolas, and Acting Senior Director for Curriculum and Instruction Vinni Orsini.
