As one of the members of the audience at the recently held forum hosted by the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, Guerrero, a former senator, said some of the candidates have no business participating the event.
“It is really critical to elect the right candidate to be the U.S. congressional delegate,” he said, adding that only two of the eight candidates who attended the forum articulated the issues clearly — former Election Commission Executive Director Gregorio C. Sablan and Marianas High School teacher John H. Davis.
Guerrero, a businessman, said Sablan “is a performing candidate” while Davis “made a lot of sense.”
Without naming names, Guerrero said some candidates provided answers not relevant to the question asked.
When asked if the candidate’s appearance at forum will indicate their performance in the U.S. Congress, Guerrero said: “If that’s the way they talked what you expect to get? It’s an embarrassment to the commonwealth to have this kind of delegate.”
He urged CNMI voters to elect a candidate who is knowledgeable, experienced and who can “really represent the commonwealth” in the U.S. Congress.
The most critical issue that candidates should discuss, he added, is the CNMI economy, which “should be addressed squarely.”
“In order to keep the economy going the government should stop changing its laws, but should instead create a friendly business environment to attract more investors to the islands,” Guerrero said.
He added, “It is very important to revitalize the economy and restart the engine to be able to continue bringing prosperity to the people.”
