Acting secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and the National Executive Council Gideon Oli said the meeting will be held at the Crowne Plaza on Jan. 27 to try to find a way forward on the political situation in Fiji.
When the 39th PIF Leaders’ Forum was held in Niue last August, Fijian interim government leaders did not attend.
At the close of that meeting, Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare offered to host a special forum to deliberate on the report of the ministerial contact group, which was tasked to visit Fiji after the Niue forum.
Oli said the group visited Fiji late last month. The PNG Events Council is coordinating preparations in consultation with other PNG agencies.
Niue President Toke Talagi will preside over the meeting as current chair of the Pacific Islands Forum.
