Supporters believe in Babauta’s connections, experience

Juan S. Dela Cruz said he appreciates the qualifications and experience of Babauta, who is also a former senator and three-term Washington representative.

Dela Cruz was one of those who attended the gathering for Babauta on Wednesday at the Garapan Central Park Roundhouse.

The guest of honor was Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, who also endorsed Babauta’s candidacy.

Ann Perry from Tanapag said she joined the gathering to show her support for Babauta’s candidacy.

Babauta, she added, “is a man of honor.”

“I believe in him even if he’s not my relative,” another supporter said.

Alexander “The Colonel” Sablan was among those who joined the gathering.

He said Babauta is a very close friend of him.

He is convinced that the former governor will make a good congressman for the commonwealth because of his “political connections and experience.”

Sablan expects the election in November to be close but he also belives that Babauta “has a very good chance of winning.”

“He is a goal oriented and a real dedicated public servant,” Sablan added.

Another supporter, John M. Aldan, said Babauta has “done a lot of things for the commonwealth.”

A Micronesian, who has been doing business on Saipan, said he cannot vote in CNMI elections, but he has many local friends that he convinced to support the candidacy of Babauta.

Carmel Dahil said she has known Babauta for a very long time and believes in his “experience and connections.”

Babauta is running against incumbent Congressman Gregorio C. Sablan, independent; former Lt. Gov. Jesus C. Borja, Democrat; and former Rep. Joseph N. Camacho of the ruling Covenant Party.
