Syed’s residence burglarized

Terence Camacho Cabrera appeared before Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo yesterday morning for his initial appearance and bail hearing.

Govendo retained the $10,000 bail imposed on Cabrera.

Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig, the defendant’s counsel, moved the court to allow Cabrera to post 10 percent, or $1,000 cash.

Assistant Attorney General Peter Prestley, who represented the government, told the court that Cabrera had been arrested 24 times already.

Cabrera has been involved in several burglary, theft, contempt and illegal possession cases since he was a juvenile.

Cabrera this time is being held on charges of burglary, theft, and conspiracy.

In his affidavit of probable cause, Detective Jackson Jack said Cabrera broke into Raby Syed’s residence, and took the victim’s TV on Friday morning.

A juvenile, who said he served as look-out, cooperated with the police and identified Cabrera as the burglar and thief.

It was not determined if the juvenile was also charged in this case.

“They get a crow bar and a hammer and they walk over to Syed’s residence, where Cabrera pried open a window on the northern part of the house, while [the juvenile] kept a look-out,” Jack said.

The juvenile said he and Cabrera took out a big flat screen television and hid it in the bushes behind the victim’s house, police said.

The juvenile and Cabrera walked to the defendant’s house in Afetnas where they managed to borrow a car, police added.

Cabrera and the juvenile drove back to pick Syed’s TV that was covered with broken tree branches.

The juvenile said Cabrera gave him $20 after selling the TV to a Chinese man, Jack told the court.

It was not determined if Syed’s TV had been recovered, and if a charge of receiving stolen property was filed against the man who bought it.
