TakeCare donates $10K to Karidat, cancer association

Commonwealth Cancer Association board chairman Bud White and CCA representatives accepted the check for $5,000 from Sylvia D. Duenas, foundation chairwoman at the FHP Health Center.

CCA program manager Tina Sablan said the association is going to use the grant in pursuing its programs especially in recruiting and training volunteers for the association’s outreach efforts

Karidat’s House of Manhoben youth coordinator Calvani Deleon Guerrero accepted the $5,000 donation from Duenas. Deleon Guerrero said  they are going to use the money to build a fence around the youth center in Chalan Kanoa.

Karidat’s House of Manhoben is a teen center that fosters self-esteem, self-reliance and self-confidence to aid in the growth and development of the youth in the CNMI.

“We want to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the youth center. Because it is open, some people have filled the walls with dirty graffiti, and we want to stop this,” Deleon Guerrero said.

Karidat executive director Angie Deleon Guerrero said they needed about $10,000 for the planned fence around the youth center.

“We received $5,000 from the Legislature, and we will use this $5,000 grant from TakeCare as our matching fund so we can start with the project immediately,” the executive director said.

She said they are very grateful to TakeCare.

Duenas said  CCA and Karidat, which applied for the grants in December last year, are just two of the four non-profit organizations the foundation has chosen as beneficiaries for the first grant cycle for this year. The two other organizations are from Guam.

Duenas said TakeCare Foundation is open for other non-profit organizations to check out their services and apply for grants.

“We would love to help. Please check out our website at www.takecareasia.com to download forms then submit to us,” Duenas said.
