Taman to run for Saipan mayor

Taman, who now works as a technical adviser for the Department of Public Lands, said in interview that he is now waiting for the endorsement of the ruling party.

He said the letter he submitted in November last year was accepted by the Covenant Party leadership.

Taman said he is aware that there are other individuals who want to run for mayor but he is confident he will get the party’s endorsement.

The former Precinct 4 representative said he is going to change the image of Saipan mayor’s office by making it more powerful over local matters.

He also wants the office to be financially “self-sustained” and not relying on the central government.

He believes that the municipal government should be properly structured to address the island’s changing socio-economic conditions.

This, he said, is essential for the effective delivery of much needed public service.

Taman also sees the need to assist the Public School System in terms of school maintenance.

“My vision is to design strategic and innovative programs aimed at maximizing our ability to generate revenues,” Taman said.
