The Tan Siu Lin Foundation Scholarship program will provide $1,000 per scholarship recipient that can be applied for the Spring and/or Summer 2012 semesters. The scholarships will be awarded to five full-time students pursuing an Associate’s in Applied Science degree in Hospitality Management, and five full-time students pursuing other degrees at NMC. In addition to hospitality management, the College offers degrees in business, liberal arts, nursing, natural resources management, criminal justice, and education.
“The scholarship is aimed at helping students in the CNMI pursue their education at Northern Marianas College,” said TSL Foundation president and chief of operations Jerry Tan. “We need to continue building our local workforce with skilled and knowledgeable individuals and this scholarship is one of the ways the Tan Siu Lin Foundation is advancing that objective.”
The Tan Holdings Foundation was formed in 2002 and was renamed after the company’s founder and chairman, Dr. Tan Siu Lin.
“The Tan Siu Lin Foundation has been a strong supporter of Northern Marianas College for many years,” said acting NMC President Galvin Deleon Guerrero. “This scholarship program goes a long way in helping our students reach their educational and professional goals.”
The scholarships are based on merit and will be awarded to the recipient on the basis of the candidate’s community involvement, academic background, and letters of recommendation. The essay and interview will also play a key role in the final selection of scholarship recipients.
