Taotao Tano calls for lt. governor’s resignation

“It is our hope that the lt. governor should resign for his actuations are an embarrassment to the people of the CNMI,” Cruz said.

Federal and local authorities are now investigating the CUC-Commonwealth Industrial Supply Co. Inc. contract, he added.

He said CISCO’s president is closely affiliated with Villagomez, a former CUC executive director.

Villagomez, according to Cruz, approved the governor’s state of emergency declaration to justify CUC’s contract with CISCO on May 14, 2006 without soliciting bids or proposal from other companies.

CISCO was supposed to repair and rehabilitate six engines at Power Plant 2 in Lower Base, but only one of its engine is operational at present.

Cruz said investigators will uncover inconsistencies and irregularities in the sole source contract that involved $885,000 in federal funds.

On June 6, three month after the contract was signed, CUC and CISCO signed a “change order” amounting to $135,436.

Cruz said there has been no improvement in the power plant since CISCO started its repair and rehabilitation efforts.

The Fitial administration, he added, has not been transparent with its transactions.
