Taotao Tano opposes Retirement Fund bill

Cruz said his group opposes the enactment of the bill which will amend Public Law 15-61 to allow the Retirement Fund to pay pension that is proportionate to an agency’s employer’s contributions.

“The administration’s failure to pay on a timely manner the central government’s contributions to the Retirement Fund is not only unconstitutional but an injustice  to all government employees who are now due to retire and have paid their share of contributions faithfully,” Cruz said.

The government stopped remitting employer’s contributions to the Retirement Fund starting in March 2006 and has offered no solutions to this problem, he added.

He said the bill that the Senate passed on Friday will cut government employees’ retirement pension by one-half until such time that the central government catches up with its obligations.

In his letter to the House of Representatives and the Senate, Cruz said the Fitial administration has been blaming previous administrations for the mismanagement of the government’s finances.

But he said the current administration is “part of such mismanagement and unaccountability in our government.”

He said Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez should resign because they “are truly not serving the interest of the people of the commonwealth and have no sound solution as promised in their ‘Better Times’ platform.”

Taotao Tano is asking Vice Speaker Joseph P. Deleon Guerrero, R-Saipan, to oppose the passage of the Senate bill.

“Put your self in the employees’ shoes who have contributed all their time and have served for over two decades faithfully only for their government to inflict such injustices on its employees,” Cruz said.
