TEGAN Quitano, 15, is now under the care of the Division of Youth Services, Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop said.
“She is safe [but] the DPS-Criminal Investigation Bureau will continue to investigate circumstances surrounding her truancy,” said Manacop, the Department of Public Safety’s acting public information officer.
He expressed his appreciation to the media outlets for their assistance in sharing information regarding the case.
DPS reclassified the case as one of truancy atter Quitano refused to return to her immediate family members.
DPS also reminded the community that Tegan is a minor child, “and that no consent was given by parents/guardians to house or shelter her. Those assisting in sheltering a minor without consent may be charged with a criminal offense.”
Tegan was reported missing last week after failing to report to school.
According to online sources, truancy is any intentional, unjustified, unauthorized, or illegal absence from compulsory education. It is a deliberate absence by a student’s own free will and usually does not refer to legitimate excused absences, such as ones related to medical conditions.
