(Commonwealth Utilities Corporation) — There is an ongoing sewer line replacement construction along Adetfa Street in Lower Miha village, Garapan.
The temporary road closure, initially scheduled to end on Aug. 31, has been extended to Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, due to inclement weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
CUC’s contractor, Hong Ye Construction, will continue temporarily closing Adetfa Street and Kalachucha Avenue to replace the existing ACP sewer line and establish a new route. This project also involves reconnecting residences affected by the construction. The temporary road closure hours are from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., with possible adjustments based on tide level and existing hard rock conditions of the trench, affecting the groundwater level, and interfering with the construction work.
Detour signs are displayed to inform the traveling public of the restrictions. Customers in the area will not experience any disruption to their power, water, or wastewater services as a result of the work.
About the project
The Lower Miha Sewer Line Replacement project is funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency to provide a more reliable sewer system to the CNMI. The transition work is part of the decommissioning of the old sewer line and will be replaced with PVC pipes.
CUC encourages members of the public to avoid these areas during construction and appreciates their cooperation in accommodating the traffic restrictions necessary to complete this critical infrastructure improvement project.
