Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric F. David said an individual physical test for interested individuals is slated for June 6-9.
Prospective candidates should be able to hike three miles with a 45-pound backpack with no running or jogging in 45 minutes.
From June 6 to 9, the U.S. Forest Service, in conjunction with DPS-Fire, will be administering the work capacity test also known as the “pack test.”
Candidates who pass the work capacity test and have the proper documentations will be eligible for deployment to stateside wildland fire incidents should the need arise.
David said the US. Forest Service-State Fire Assistance Program has been providing annual grant funds to DPS-Fire under the cooperative fire protection grant program.
These funds are being used to augment wildland firefighting capabilities and other wildland mitigation activities as well as, support local fire fighting operations.
“Our role during these training periods is to administer the work capacity test while Region 5 representatives certifies the tests,” David said.
