A TOYOTA Tacoma parked outside Green Consume Market in As Lito was stolen on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
Video of the incident was shared widely on WhatsApp, where it was first brought to the attention of Marianas Variety.
“[The man] was walking on the road by himself,” said a Green Consume staff member. “He passed the store, went down a little bit, came back and then drove the car.”
She doesn’t recognize the man in the video.
At the time of the theft, the owner of the Tacoma was in the store, shopping.
Another employee of Green Consume noted that the Tacoma car keys were left in the vehicle and the windows were open.
The theft occurred around 11 a.m. and the police responded to the incident. The stolen vehicle’s license plate is “HE.”
In the video, a man is seen wearing an ACU military-style jacket, khaki shorts, and a wide-brimmed tan hat that obscured his face. He walks past the Tacoma, goes near the edge of the store parking lot, and then turns around, heading directly to the four-door pickup truck. The man enters the vehicle and drives off.
As of press time Tuesday evening, the Department of Public Safety had yet to issue a statement.
