FOURTH grade students and members of the My Wave Club of Tinian Elementary School went on a youth familiarization tour on Thursday to acquaint themselves with the tourist attractions of the island.
The youth familiarization tour, according to Marianas Visitors Authority-Tinian office, was conducted to cap the month-long series of activities for the celebration of Tourism Month in May.
The students were accompanied by teacher Evelyn Alarcon and My Wave Club cultural dance mentor Sonia San Nicolas.
MVA-Tinian said the students had a grand time exploring historical and tourist attraction sites for the day, starting from the south at the Suicide Cliff and the legendary Latte Stones at the Taga House.
The students also explored the other historical sites at the northern part of Tinian.
MVA-Tinian said during the familiarization tour, they explained the significance of the different sites that tourists pay thousands of dollars just to come for a visit. MVA also discussed to the students the importance and the roles of the students in protecting the sites by avoiding trash littering.
A couple of weeks earlier, MVA-Tinian hosted a familiarization tour for students and teacher chaperones of Tinian High School to visit cultural and historical sites on Tinian.
The students visited Broadway, the famous Blow Hole, Runway Able, Air Raid Shelters, Command Post, Atomic Bomb Pits 1 & 2, Chulu Beach, Seabees Monument, Korean Monument, House of Taga, Tinian Shinto Shrine, Suicide Cliff and Kastiyu Animal Park.
Both familiarization tours were designed to give the elementary and high school students of Tinian a first-hand experience of what tourists go through when visiting the island.
“The youth familiarization tours were also conducted to encourage the youth to take an active part in the tourism industry,” MVA-Tinian said.
