The commissioning ceremony introduced and recognized the new second lieutenants of the United States Army through the University of Guam’s ROTC program. Each lieutenant had their first salute with a Non-Commissioned Officer or NCO to signify their entrance into the U.S. Army. Each lieutenant gave their Silver Dollar to their respective NCO’s for that symbolic purpose.

2LT Sandbergen’s branch is Active Duty Armor; he will be operating a tank and taking charge of a platoon-sized element. Sandbergen will soon be shipped off to Fort Benning in Georgia, where he will be attending Basic Officer Leadership Course for about 6 to 12 months. Then, he will be assigned to a unit, which is unknown at the moment, and take on his first assignment as a platoon leader. He will be informed of his unit after completion of his training.

While in the Senior ROTC program, Sandbergen’s duties included being the assistant adjutant officer or S1 during his third year and the signal officer or S6 in his final year. As the S1 assistant, Sandbergen assisted with all human resource matters and ensured that he had full accountability on personnel for all events and field training. As the main S-6, he dealt with communications during field training events.

At the end of his first year in ROTC, he received the Cadet of the Semester Award. This award recognizes cadets that made the most improvements from day one until the final day for the semester in terms of physical fitness.

Sandbergen shares a message to all the cadets in the Tinian JROTC Stallion Battalion: Don’t limit yourself to one option after you graduate from high school. There are many opportunities out there and you need to find them. Once you gather all possible options (which requires serious research), rank each one in the order of importance. Make sure that your number one ranked option is something you are passionate about and willing to make sacrifices for. After that, go out and get it and do not stray away from that path.

You are on your way to doing some great things indeed, 2LT Sandbergen! Congratulations on becoming an officer! Your abilities have taken you to a new height of success. This is all because of your dedication, hard work, and confidence. The Stallion Battalion commends you once again and looks forward to your future accomplishments. Hooah!
