Tinian seaport to be repaired

Commonwealth Ports Authority Executive Director Efrain Camacho was scheduled to meet with Mobil representatives on Tinian, Friday, to discuss the issue.

“CPA will be improving certain aspect of the harbor primarily the area where the fuel tank berths,” Camacho told the agency’s board of directors during its meeting on Wednesday.

Funding will come from Mobil and CPA will pay the oil company by reducing the wharfage, Camacho said.

The ferry ticketing booth will be replaced while the incinerator building and work area have been already repaired, he said.

Camacho said the Office of the Tinian Mayor has been granted temporary use of certain part of the seashore for an experimental abalone farming project.

A pre-proposal conference was scheduled last Friday in the office of the Tinian ports manager at the island’s airport.

“Attendance at this pre-proposal conference is mandatory and only contractors present at the pre-proposal meeting will be allowed to submit proposals,” according to CPA’s notice to bid for Tinian Harbor improvements.

Each proposal must be accompanied by a bid bond issued by a CPA-approved surety company, a certified check, or a cashier’s check in the amount of no less than 10 percent of the total proposal amount, it added.
