“Residents flock to this event and it’s a great place for tourists to really experience the Chamorro and Carolinian culture in a beautiful setting,” MVA Managing Director Perry Tenorio said in a statement.
The festival is a celebration of Tinian’s internationally well- known pepper “donni sali” and the event will showcase locally prepared food products, arts and crafts as well as local cultural and modern singers and dancers.
The competitions include the Hot Pepper Eating Contest, the “Estofao Pika” Cooking Contest, the Karaoke Singing Contest, the Dragon Boat Race and the Cha-Cha Dance Contest.
Last year, residents of Saipan and Tinian celebrated the festival by selling bottles of hot pepper and preparing favorite island dishes like chicken kelaguen, grated coconut, donni sali and other seasoning wrapped in fresh tortilla.
