Torres, Flawau are manamko’ king and queen

Jose Torres was crowned  manamko’ king while Rita Flawau is this year’s manamko’ queen.

Aging Office acting Director Rose DLG. Mondala said for the first time, a senior citizen from Rota was crowned manamko’ queen.

Flawau, 67, said she was “very happy”  and vowed to be a worthy representative of all the senior citizens in the commonwealth.

She said she was  proud to bring honor to Rota.

Flawau thanked her husband, Felix, and children Noli and Antonia Doromal, Raymond and Rose Castro, Nelly King and Carl Atalig, Jesus and Berlinda  Quitano, Violeta Repato, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Torres was accompanied by his wife Adoracion Torres and children Rowena Sison land Angel Nino.

Torres, 86, said he still feels strong and was “very lucky” to win the crown this year.

This year’s royal princess is Siyau Muna with Teodoro Guiao as the royal prince.

The first princess is Meryalen Conrad; the first prince, Manuel Mesa; second princess, Soledad Cabrera; third princess, Felisa Baza; and the fourth princess, Virginia Prado.

After the procession of the royal court, 2008 King Felipe Santiago and Queen Rosalia Sablan turned over their crowns to the new “monarchs.”

Mondala said they generated $11,000 for the manamko’ king and queen fundraising activity.

She said the candidates will receive 20 percent of the total funds raised.

The raffle for the manamko’ royal court fund drive is scheduled for June 5.

Mondala said the coronation night was very successful and drew the participation of over 120 senior citizens and visitors.

“The manamko’ were very happy and they enjoyed the food and drinks served to them. We promised to make this event even better next year,” she said.
