In a privileged speech, the lawmaker said the contracts of some LB staff members were renewed for just 90 days and others for a year without justification.
“Please look into this matter. Why are certain staffers being singled out?” Torres, R-Saipan, said.
“I asked that you too think about the staffers who are already having problems with their existing bank loans, CUC payments, high gasoline prices and other family obligations as well as employees’ morale and mental anxiety as a result of this issue,” he added.
Speaker Arnold I. Palacios, R-Saipan, said he will seek answers from the LB.
Under the proposed fiscal year 2009 budget, the LB is entitled to hire 36 full-time-employees who will be paid over $1.5 million a year.
