Rep. Stanley T. Torres, R-Saipan, wants the oversight hearing be held in an executive session.
Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said the administration stands by the AG.
“I am not aware of Representative Torres latest allegations regarding our attorney general, but we continue to have confidence in our attorney general,” he told Variety in an e-mail.
During yesterday’s session, Torres brought water pests preserved in a bottle which he claimed were introduced in the CNMI from containers that the AG’s girlfriend imported from Thailand about two years ago.
Torres introduced House Resolution 16-36 which stated that the AG’s girlfriend imported containers from Thailand containing soil, potteries and plants that have been infested by pests and insects which presumably have multiplied in the ponds and dirt in the commonwealth.
He wants the quarantine director to look into this issue.
“I have brought in for proof of specimens in the jar containing three varieties of the alien invaders grown from the hidden eggs that made its way into the CNMI via containers from Thailand and began nesting hatching and multiplying in fish and lily ponds,” said the lawmaker.
The shipment of foreign goods to the CNMI is necessary said Torres, but added that every precaution to protect the islands’ residents and its environment must be done.
“The continued entry and growth of alien pests will have a long term and detrimental effect on the environment that will bring harm to our people, turn away investors, and further our economic downward spiral,” he said.
“The inspection process for container entering the commonwealth should be stringent and not randomly inspected to prevent the growing infestation of alien pests and insects destroying our beautiful islands,” he added.
