According to a report from Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro, Takeyuki Wakasa was pronounced dead by an attending doctor at 3:21 p.m. on Dec. 23 at the Commonwealth Health Center where he was transported by medics.
Ogumoro said DPS received a report of a possible drowning incident at about 2:56 p.m.
She said preliminary investigation showed that the victim was swimming with his 13-year-old daughter when he decided to swim farther out toward the deeper part of the sea. The victim’s daughter remained near the shoreline.
Ogumoro said at about 30 minutes to an hour later, the victim was found a quarter mile from the beach floating on the surface of the water, motionless and with his face down.
“The victim had no pulse and was not breathing when cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered to him,” she said.
According to Ogumoro, the victim had a history of chest pains and shortness of breath.
Investigation showed that there was fluid in the lungs of the victim.
