Trunk or Treat draws hundreds of visitors

U.S. Park Ranger Nancy Kelchner said 10 vehicles decorated their trunks with Halloween décor and distributed candies to children.

Kelchner said she is overwhelmed by the positive response from the community.

“The weather cooperated with us, and we had more people this year compared to last year, and we knew that everybody had a grand time,” Kelchner said.

She said she was very happy with the good turnout of the event.

She said last year, about 850 children and adults participated in the 2nd Trunk or Treat Halloween event.

“We are glad to surpass last year’s number, and next year, we are counting on the community to have a much bigger turnout,” she said.

The “Trunk or Treat” started at 4 p.m. but even before the official “witching hour,”  children were already approaching the vehicles to get their “treats.”

American Memorial Park opened its Visitors Center theater at 10 a.m. for the first showing of “Dracula.” The second show started at 6 p.m.

“Haunted Mansion” was screened at 12 noon and at 4 p.m.

Kelchner said park rangers were all over the place to ensure security and safety.

“Our target is to have everybody come and enjoy, and we will take care of all the other matters,” she said.

Saipan Pacific Winds Community Band played “spooky” music to add to the “Halloween” spirit at the park.
