The CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) in conjunction with the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) has issued a tsunami advisory for the coastal areas of the Northern Mariana Islands, including Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and the Northern Islands.
As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), a tsunami advisory is now in effect following a preliminary magnitude 8.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred at approximately 9:25 am on July 30, 2025, off the coast of Kamchatka, Russia.
A tsunami advisory is issued, which means that strong currents & waves are dangerous to those in/near the water are possible. Stay alert for further information the earliest estimated time of arrival of tsunami waves within the CNMI would be 2:30 pm (ChST).
Preparedness Actions for CNMI Residents:
Stay informed: Tune into official sources like the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) https://www.tsunami.gov/ or CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Remain out of water, away from beaches, harbors, and waterways.
The community is advised to move away from beaches or harbors, at least 100 feet inland, and 50 feet up.
