Tudela bags grand prize in Agricultural Fair competition

SERAFIN P. Tudela of As Teo bagged the grand prize in 23rd Annual Saipan Agricultural Fair’s plant division competition on Saturday, bringing home $670 in cash, in addition to agricultural products and equipment.

Thirty-eight farmers joined the competition.

Sid Cabrera, a member of the Saipan Agricultural Fair Association Committee, yesterday said Tudela garnered a total of 68 points for the 114 entries consisting of fruits, vegetables, root crops, nuts and miscellaneous crops.

“All the farmers did their best. We thank them all for participating. We hope they will continue to support the event in the years to come,” said Cabrera, who tabulated the results of the competition together with Gene Santos.

JM Guerrero of As Lito was 1st runner-up—a mere point away from bagging the grand prize. Guerrero earned 67 points for his 110 entries. The 2nd runner-up award went to Diego B. Camacho of Kagman, earning a total of 63 points for his 98 entries.

Deron Flores of As Lito received the 3rd runner-up award with 57 earned points for 78 entries.

The following farmers and businessmen also earned a lot of points: William Ada, 53 points; Juan C. Aguon, 51 points; Joey Cruz, 48 points; Joseph Jones, 43 points; and Galo Tudela, 39 points.

Cabrera said there were 1,792 entries of fruits, vegetables, root crops and miscellaneous crops—from giant pumpkins to watermelons, bananas, breadfruits, citrus fruits, cucumbers and betel nuts, among others.

The competition was held at the 4-H Pavilion in Susupe.
