Tudela confident Saipan will get award in Maui’ art competition

He encouraged all junior high school and high school grade level students to submit their entries.

Each year, Tudela said,  Maui participates in the Sister Cities Foundation International Conference, which highlights the Young Artist Showcase for students in junior high and high school level.

The theme for this year is “Your Path to Peace,” he said.

Tudela said all entries must be received by his office in San Antonio no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, March 13.

“The 2009 Your Path to Peace is an opportunity for you to express your personal vision of peace.  Life is a journey and it is characterized by what you feel, see, hear, think and most importantly defined by you,” he said.

Last year, Saipan sent Joseph Martin of Marianas High School and his work “Through the Radiant Rays of Sunshine.”

Whoever will represent Saipan in Maui this year will once again compete with other young Pacific artists.

In Maui, art competition organizers will choose the 10 top artists who will then vie again in the national contest on the mainland U.S.

For more information regarding this year’s competition, you may call Jemalyn T. Tenorio, the mayor’s office youth programs coordinator, at 234-6280 or 234-6208, during regular working hours, Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
