Tudela explains incentives given to teachers

Hopwood Junior High School recently inquired about the incentives to educators provided by the mayor’s office, Tudela said.

The incentives, he added, are an expression of appreciation for the achievements of outstanding teachers.

He didn’t say if his office will now start providing the same incentives to the teachers of other schools.

Tudela said only Marianas High School vice principal Jessica Barcenas informed him about the school’s most outstanding employees this year — Jim Phillips, Violeta Angeles and Patricia Aguon-Cruz.

Phillips was later named by the Public School System as the CNMI’s teacher of the year. He has a master of science degree and is also a staff instructor for the Professional Association of Diving Instructors.

“The other schools might be wondering why we haven’t given the incentives to their outstanding teachers,” the mayor said.

He said the three MHS personnel received gift certificates from the Saipan World Resort and certificates of appreciation.
