Two nominees to Rota casino commission get strong public support

THERE were no objections raised against the qualifications and personalities of the two appointees to the Rota Casino Gaming and Control Commission during the public hearing on Friday.

Rota Municipal Council Secretary Vicente M Calvo told Variety yesterday that the public hearing was well attended by families of the appointees and other members of the community.

“The public support is very well manifested,” Calvo said.

This week, he said, the council is expecting the drug test results from the two — Abelina T. Mendiola and Justin S. Manglona.

After the submission of the drug examination results, the municipal council will convene and evaluate the inputs gathered during the public hearing, he said, adding that the confirmation will be made immediately.

Calvo said the municipal council is trying to fast-track the confirmation of the nominees while carefully evaluating their qualifications.

He said the three current commissioners cannot entertain prospective casino investors because the commission must have at least four members before it can function.

According to Calvo, prospective investors  have already visited the mayor’s office to inquire about the casino business on Rota.
