According to Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro, DPS central received information about two swimmers/surfers who were attempting to go back to shore at 5:53 p.m. on Jan. 3.
The two surfers — 31-year-old Nicolas Swaim and 27-year-old Kristina Springer — were brought back to shore by Lino Tenorio who passed near the reef line in his vessel.
Ogumoro said preliminary investigation conducted by Boating Safety officers showed that the surfers were outside the reef line.
When they were about to return to shore, they found that the waves and the current were too strong for them.
Ogumoro said both victims were stranded close to the reef for almost an hour before they were spotted by Tenorio.
She said both surfers were advised to take extra precautionary measures when surfing especially during dangerous water conditions.
Aside from exhaustion, Swaim and Springer suffered no injuries and they refused to be taken to the hospital for observation or treatment.
