Ueda named envoy to Japan

KOROR (Palau Horizon) — President Tommy Remengesau has asked the Senate to confirm the nomination of the new ambassador of Palau to Japan.

Remengesau wants Masao Ueda to replace Masao Salvador.

Ueda served as minister of health under the administration of then President Kuniwo Nakamura. Remengesau said Ueda “is an excellent choice for the position having met all standards to be the new envoy to Japan.”

“The relationship between Palau and Japan is one of the most important and most valued of all our international relations. It is therefore incumbent upon the republic to be represented in Japan by an individual whose qualifications reflect the great significance we place upon the special relationship with Japan and whose experience will allow the best possible representation of our interests,” Remengesau said in a letter to Senate President Seit Andres.
