Underwater photo exhibit at DFS

“The Lure of the Sea” was opened to the public on Thursday night and will remain on exhibit until Sept. 22.

Louis Vuitton Guam communication and administration coordinator Tomoe Hofman said the two Japanese artists, Takahiro Noguchi and Ota Nobuyuki, are diving instructors and professional underwater photographers.

They have already exhibited their underwater photographs in the past.

In an earlier press statement, Hofman said Louis Vuitton realized that “the sea has always drawn artists and dreamers to its shores.”

“Part of its fascination is its relationship to man and to the self-regenerating natural order of things. But for many artists, the sea presents particular difficulties. Its mutability-and the power and majesty of the open, deep, illimitable sea-is like trying to paint a soul,” the statement said.

It added that for the two Japanese artists, “the solution is to focus on the sea’s rich bounty in a series of stunning underwater photographs taken in the alluring crystalline clear waters of the Marianas.”

Guests at the opening ceremony were impressed by the compelling photographs on display.

Top officials of Louis Vuitton who welcomed the guests included Edouard Faure, general manager for Louis Vuitton Guam, Saipan and the Philippines, and Louis Vuitton DFS Saipan store manager Eugene J. Provido.
