“That’s (recruitment) an area we are going to further improve,” says Brigadier General Philip M. Ruhlman during Joint House Courtesy meeting at the Capitol Hills yesterday.
Gen. Ruhlman raised the assurance during inquiries of some legislators that there seems a “disconnect” with the locals in terms of US military recruitment, particularly in the Air Force.
Gen. Ruhlman, commander of U.S. Air Force 36th Wing stationed at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, met with legislators, led by Senate President Pete P. Reyes and House Speaker Arnold I. Palacios, together with some members of both Houses.
The visiting one-star general is accompanied by Col. Tod Fingal, commander of 36th Wing Operations Group.
Legislators shared there are many graduating kids and who graduated in high school in the Northern Mariana Islands wanting to be enlisted, particularly in the Air Force, but have to contact or communicate its recruitment offices in Guam.
Young kids on the other hand are receiving recruitment flyers and information materials from the U.S. Marines and the Army, legislators further informed the visiting U.S. Air Force officials.
