But on Saturday, they conducted their first cleanup campaign focused on public schools.
Koblerville Elementary School was the first to avail of the community service provided by 19 Navy personnel led by Lt. Sherri Garret.
Garret said they are eager to join cleanup drives in different areas such as Sugar King Park and other historical sites.
“We are glad to serve and willing to assist the community,” she told Variety.
At KoES, their scope of work included landscaping, yard cleaning, trimming, mapping and cleaning of the glass windows.
School principal Rizalina Purugganan said KoES officials and Navy personnel also joined the “Walk for Life” event of the Public School System at 6:30 a.m. before they proceeded to the school.
Because of the Navy’s help, Purugganan said the school saved a significant amount of funds on cleanup services.
Before the start of the school year, she added, they spent $45 to clean and sanitize every classroom, for a total cost of $1,800.
On Saturday, the Navy personnel helped beautify the campus by leveling the parking areas and cleaning the school’s surroundings.
Garret said they are expecting more schools to ask their help in cleaning up campuses.
