USP council proposes administration overhaul

SUVA (Pacnews) — The University of the South Pacific will soon undergo major administrative reform.

The changes, proposed at a recent meeting of the USP Council in Niue, include changes to recruitment procedures and academic titles.

The Council said the university is now under pressure to function on “declining or stagnant resources,” while attempting to raise its standard of education, and to ensure the presence of “good managers at all levels” who can also be inspirational leaders.

“The aim of the new academic administration initiative is to improve procedures of recruitment, terms and conditions of heads of various faculties…and to retain some of the good current holders of these positions.”

Among the proposed changes are the introduction of a F$12,000 ($5,665) responsibility and administration allowance to the heads of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences and the School of Social and Economic Development.
